7 Month Update

Alright, alright, I know this update is super late seeing as how she is 8 months old today, but I had five papers and a final to study for during early May.

I remember one of the most important things to remember when holding Isabel as a baby was making sure her big noggin didn’t go flopping around. She had a big head, even the growth charts agreed. While she wasn’t even on the charts for weight or height, her head was just fine.

isabel eats prunes
Mmmmm, prunes!

When she started trying to roll, it was her head that kept her back as it was just too heavy for her to move. And when she started learning to sit on her own, again it was her head that often caused her to tip. She was top heavy.

Well, the girl has finally got a handle on her dome this month and is sitting up like a big girl!

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the “big update” that I alluded to last month hasn’t happened as she is still doing her front scoot/lunge/hands-and-knees-wobble, and hasn’t quite figured out how to crawl. I swore we were only a couple weeks away last month, but like we’ve known all along, this girl moves to the beat of her own drum.

Speaking of her own drum, she is eating food (ie. not just milk) and has already made it clear she is not a fan of anything that hasn’t been nearly liquefied in the VitaMix. Slightly textured oatmeal? Nope. Blend that shit some more please.

And she is still a fan of her hands. But rather than just sucking, she has found comfort in sucking her thumb – not all the time, just when she’s upset or super tired. According to the doc this is fine at this age and I will admit it’s pretty adorable seeing her do it while she sleeps. However, this little habit of hers will stop when it starts ruining her teeth, mark my words!

Last, but certainly not least, we took our first family trip – a quick jaunt south with Grandma and Grandpa. She slept in her travel crib overnight for the first time, and minus a sinus-plagued night where she hummed and moaned (but shockingly never awoke), everything was fine. We may not have slept as well, but who cares about us.
