As a father to a daughter, I want to make sure she grows up with a positive concept of beauty.
I will not be able to protect her from the media portrayal of beauty and at some point, she may even think that the women portrayed by Hollywood and Madison Ave. are more beautiful than she.
But it will be my job to reinforce that beauty is subjective, that there is no definition of a “beautiful person,” and that other than her mama (and perhaps any future daughters), she is the most beautiful woman in the world.
And when she’s old enough to understand how Photoshop plays into this negative reality, I will show her these photos.
