“Fore” – Convos With My 4-year Old

I started playing sports when I was 5. Beginning with the “gateway” sport, soccer, and progressing through baseball, track, basketball, and ultimate frisbee (yes, that is a sport), I’ve been playing organized sports all my life. This doesn’t event count the unorganized dabblings in golf, ping pong, football, laser tag, and mud-running.

I’ve also coached soccer. But because I have a little self-awareness, I only coached kids old enough that could (a) pay attention most of the time, and (b) had a working knowledge of the game, so that I wouldn’t lose my mind. I knew that I didn’t have enough patience to coach “swarm” ball with kids under 7-years-old, which makes me slightly nervous knowing I will probably have to teach Isabel something physical/athletic in her young formative years.

I doubt I will have to teach her golf, since I’m horrible at golf and have zero business teaching anyone golf. But I think you can take the below video and apply large chunks of it to any parental teaching situation that requires any level of coordination, instructions, but most of all…patience.
