5 great things about being a “Pregnant Dad”

While the impending joy of fatherhood should be enough, there are definitely some perks to being an expectant father. Here are just five, feel free to mention yours in the comments.

  1. Frozen Yogurt  Getting frozen yogurt wasn’t out of the norm for us. But I think we had it much more frequently over the past nine months, which definitely wasn’t a bad thing. However, it really exposed my sensitive upper teeth.
  2. Baby Registry – Remember how excited you were when gifts started arriving at your house for your wedding (this assumes you had one, if not, skip a few sentences)? Or when your wife/partner brought home a bunch of cool stuff from her bridal shower? Well, this is the same thing. The items are far different, but who would have thought you could get excited for an umbrella stroller or going to Babies ‘R Us to return a bunch of stuff and getting $300 in credit. City Mini here we come!
  3. Eating Out – Kudos to my wife who (a) loves to cook, (b) does 90% of the cooking in our house and (c) has mastered the Crock-Pot (note: I do have “my meals”). So we normally only at out once or twice a week…it was our date night. Let me just say that we went on many more “dates” these past nine months. Get ready for your eating out “budget” to increase.
  4. Baby Gap summer sale – Remember these words, DO NOT EVER BUY ANYTHING AT FULL PRICE (unless of course money is no object). I didn’t do any of the shopping, but I was just as excited to see the loot my wife brought home at some ridiculous savings of like 75%. Just wait for the summer sale and stock-up, you won’t be disappointed.
  5. DIY Projects – Putting together a nursery isn’t cheap (however, reference #2). We definitely bought some nice things (rocker, rug, light, black-out curtains, etc.) and received nice gifts (dresser and crib), but a few items brought out the HGTV in me, including the bookshelf and my daughter’s red high chair – complete with gnaw marks from some wild child before here (aka my wife). Thanks to my awesome paint sprayer and good ol’ fashioned Rustoleum, both items turned out great and saved us a few shekels. Look for future posts on these projects.
